RDF Databases for Querying XML. A Model-mapping Approach

چکیده

Some recent research works face the challenge to map XML documents to RDF triples. Ontologies are used to establish semantic connections among XML applications, and some mechanisms have been defined to query them with natural XML query languages like XPath and XML Query. Generally structure-mapping approaches define a simple translation between trivial XPath expressions and a target RDF query language; however some XPath constructs (those depending on node order) cannot be covered in a structure-mapping strategy. In contrast, our work takes the model-mapping approach, respectful with the node order, that allows a complete mapping of any XPath axis to a single RDQL query. The obtained XPath processor can be fed with an unlimited set of XML schemas and/or RDFS/OWL ontologies. The queries are resolved taking in consideration the structural and semantic connections descrived in the schemas and ontologies. Such behaviour, schema-awareness and semantic integration, can be useful for exploiting schema and ontology hierarchies in XPath queries.

Querying Embedded RDF Data with XML Technology: A Feasibility Study

XML has become the de facto standard for representing and accessing data on the Web. At the same time RDF is becoming more and more popular for representing metadata. While RDF also has an XML-based syntax, storage and query technologies for the two formats are not compatible due to differences in the data model. This is a potential problem when trying to query data that combine XML data with R...

Query + Metadata + Logic = Metalog

The Resource Description Framework (RDF) Model&Syntax Specification describes a metadata infrastructure which can accommodate classification elements from different vocabularies i.e. schemas. The underlying model consists of a labeled directed acyclic graph which can be linearized into eXtensible Markup Language (XML) transfer syntax for interchange between applications. This paper will demonst...

Model-Mapping Approaches for Storing and Querying XML Documents in Relational Database: A Survey

Extensible Markup Language (XML), which is recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), has rapidly become the dominant standard for data interchange and data representation on the web. At present, with the growing use of XML data on the web, the size of this type of data is increasing rapidly, and users issue more complex queries on this data. Therefore, the demand to manage this data i...

Integrating XQuery-enabled SCORM XML Metadata Repositories into an RDF-based E-Learning P2P Network

Edutella is an RDF-based E-Learning P2P network that is aimed to accommodate heterogeneous learning resource metadata repositories in a P2P manner and further facilitate the exchange of metadata between these repositories based on RDF. Whereas Edutella provides RDF metadata repositories with a quite natural integration approach, XML metadata repositories have to overcome considerable incompatib...

Labeling RDF Graphs for Linear Time and Space Querying

Indices and data structures for web querying have mostly considered tree shaped data, reflecting the view of XML documents as tree-shaped. However, for RDF (and when querying ID/IDREF constraints in XML) data is indisputably graph-shaped. In this chapter, we first study existing indexing and labeling schemes for RDF and graph data in general with focus on support for efficient adjacency and rea...
